The most
complete short trip to the Cusco region; Combining ancient history and living
culture. An exploration of the political and religious capital of the Incas:
Qosqo (the “Navel of the Earth), whose temples and palaces became the foundations
of magnificent Spanish neo-Baroque churches. High above the city’s main square,
we explore the magnificent Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Pukapukara and Tambomachay
archaeological park and then visit the monumental sites of Pisac and
Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley. After that continuing to enigmatic the lost
city
of Machu Picchu.
City tour
visit around Arequipa and some convent and one of the world's deepest canyons is
only accessible by a poor road over the Altiplano and runs through the nature
reserve of Pampas de Cañahuas where vicuñas and guanacos are often sighted. The
road then drops spectacularly to the village of Chivay (3600m) about 160km from
Arequipa. The Colca gorge is its most precipitous drop, some 3000 ft over 50
miles. If any one mood dominates the Colca it is one of isolation. The Inca
gained control of the valley in the 15th century, but they never really
conquered it, nor did the Spanish, who took over in the 16th century and killed
much of the native population but were unable to fully dominate the region and
make use of it.
The end point of our tour is at the Cruz de Condor, about 60 km from Chivay. As
the name suggests Andean Condors
are often seen here early morning or late afternoon are the best time for this.
From this the view is impressive with the river flowing 1200 meters below. Near
Chivay is the thermal hot springs of La Calera, which it is also possible to
visit.
