DAILY DEPARTURE
The hike from
Mollepata to Santa Teresa exhibits the distinct ecosystems of the Andes. The temperature, zones of altitude, and climate changes. The trail climbs from the high temperate to the sparsely inhabited Puna around the Salkantay and Humantay mountains. The trail could be the same as the original trail of the Incas. The trail after the pass then descends into the lush valleys of cloud forest to
Machu Picchu. Our 5 day trek takes us along one of the most diverse and pristine Andean trails in the Cusco region. Heading in to highlands at the foot of
Salkantay Mountain we’ll cross one high pass on the Mountain’s south west side. Coming within touching distance of its glacier and ice blocks, then descending toward the warm, subtropical valleys, we’ll pass waterfalls, hot springs and see a lot of flora and fauna. We lose elevation and arrive at Santa Teresa where we’ll catch a local bus to km 122, then catch a local train to the Aguas Calientes. (Puente Ruins) where we spend one night and visit one of the most marvelous Ruins in the world the Lost City of the
Incas Machu Picchu. All people who trek this route must be in fit physical condition.
