At the summit, (which is over 16,500 feet!) not only will you experience the otherworldly colors of the mountain – but you can take in the gorgeous valley views and be amazed as you look at the snow capped peaks of the Ausangate mountains behind you – a unique landscape panorama.

Day 1: Cusco – Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountain) – Cusco (B, L)
We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco very early in the morning and drive you to the staging area at the base of the mountain, with a quick stop for breakfast along the way. Your hike will (likely) take you past alpaca herds as you head up the mountain – the elevation is very high (the peak is ~16,500 feet), so take your time and catch your breath as you enjoy the views of the Ausangate mountain and the crisp mountain air. As you reach the peak, you’ll be right next to the Rainbow mountain, but there is another vantage point (which we recommend if you have it in you) higher up that you can climb for an amazing view of Vinicunca, the valleys and Apu Ausangate. After you’ve had your fill – we’ll head back down and make our way back to Cusco, with a stop for lunch along the way. You should be back to your hotel in the mid to late afternoon – plenty of time for you to rest and clean up before heading out to enjoy the Cusco nightlife.
There are horses at the bottom that you can hire for an additional fee. At your request we can reserve one for you for an additional charge. If you do not reserve in advance, it’s first come first serve and it is possible that there may not be any horses available.
